- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. 2.0 Installing the mach32 OS/2 Drivers ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Installing the mach32 OS/2 Drivers
-
- 1. Insert disk #1 and run INSTALL from within a full screen DOS session
- under OS/2. Check the "Set Power-Up Configuration" to ensure that you
- have selected an appropriate monitor type:
-
- a) OS/2 requires the 640x480 resolution to be configured for the
- IBM default 60Hz vertical refresh rate.
- b) You must configure the card for all resolutions that your
- monitor can support in order to have them functioning correctly
- under OS/2.
-
- 2. Check the Windows List (press CTRL-ESC) to see if you have any WIN-OS/2
- or DOS sessions iconized. Close them all as the INSTALL may fail if a
- WIN-OS/2 session is running.
-
- Note: Do not task switch while running the INSTALL program.
-
- 3. From the INSTALL Main Selection Menu, select 'Install Device Drivers' and
- pick 'IBM OS/2' Then follow the instructions given on the screen.
-
- Note: If PM Desktop does not reappear after exiting from the full screen
- DOS session, pressing <Enter> will bring you back to full screen. If
- this occurs, you must reboot to get back to the PM Desktop.
-
- 4. Run DSPINSTL from within an OS/2 windowed session.
-
- 5. When the 'Display Driver Install' panel appears, check 'Primary Display'
- and click OK to bring up a list of choices. You should see an option for
- ATI mach32.
-
- 6. Select 'ATI mach32 (Enhanced)' from the list and click OK. If the error
- message "The installed adapter does not support the selected display
- driver. Do you wish to continue?" appears, ignore it and click OK.
-
- 7. When the source directory panel appears, select 'Change' and enter
- x:\MACH_OS2 (where x: is your OS/2 boot drive) Click 'Set' and then
- 'Install'. After the files are copied, exit the OS/2 window or full
- screen session. Shut down and restart your system.
-
- 8. The PM driver will first come up in 640x480, 256 colors mode. Use the
- following steps to change the screen resolutions or number of colors:
-
- a) Open 'OS/2 System' object.
- b) Open 'System Setup' object.
- c) Open 'System' object.
- d) Select the 'Screen' tab.
- e) Select the desired resolution and color depth from the list.
- f) Double click on the system menu icon or select close from the
- system menu to close the window.
- g) Shut down and restart your system.

-
-
- ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. 4.0 Known Problems ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
-
- Known Problems
-
- o This driver does not support 24bpp Windows on ISA mach32 cards. Please
- use the mach32 drivers supplied with OS/2 Warp or OS/2 2.11 instead if
- 24bpp is required.
-
- o WIN-OS/2 Performance may be slow for some configurations of cards. If
- you are running with a VLB or PCI mach32 product you may comment out the
- "EngineOnly=1" line from the system.ini file after ensuring that the
- memory aperture is enabled. This will not work on ISA mach32 cards. If
- the "EngineOnly=1" line is removed and the aperture is not enabled
- corruption will be visible on the screen in WIN-OS/2 sessions.
-
- To enable/disable the memory aperture, insert disk #1 and run INSTALL
- from within a full screen DOS session (under OS/2) and select the "Set
- Power-Up Configuration". Select the "Memory Aperture from the "Set
- Power-Up Configuration" menu.
-
- "Memory Aperture" will not appear in the "Set Power-Up Configuration"
- menu if you are using an ISA or PCI mach32 card. ISA cards do not
- support the memory aperture (i.e. memory aperture is disabled). PCI
- cards automatically configure the memory aperture. (i.e. memory aperture
- is enabled).
-
- To disable the virtual aperture, ensure that the memory aperture is
- enabled and then make the following change to the SYSTEM.INI file under
- the [display] section:
-
- VAD=OFF
-
- o The color pallet is mixed up at 24bpp when selecting colors.
-
- o In Microsoft Excel v. 3.0 for OS/2 extra garbage lines may be visible in
- pie charts when running OS/2 2.11.
-
- o Title Bars of WIN-OS/2 applications running seamlessly on the PM desktop
- may bleed to other PM or DOS Windows when you switch from a full screen
- WIN-OS/2 session to the OS/2 PM screen, or when switching from full
- screen DOS sessions to a windowed session using Alt-Home.
-
- o When running 24bpp and seamless Windows a message may appear warning the
- user that the system is "Extremely low on memory. There is not enough
- memory to convert all program icons. The icons which are not converted
- will appear as black."
-
- o Launch the WINDOWS Media Player (WINDOWS\MPLAYER.EXE) as a seamless
- WIN-OS/2 session. Change the Media Player to fullscreen mode and the top
- area of the screen will corrupt along with the Warp icons and groups.
- Warp must be restarted to clear the corruption.
-
- o When Full-Screen WIN-OS/2 sessions are running in that background and the
- PM is being used, selecting the "Windowed" popup option for the
- Full-Screen session will produce a blank screen because the driver does
- not support this mode of operation. Simply call up the pop menu again
- and select "Full Screen" to switch back to full screen operation.
-
- o When using Seamless WIN-OS/2 sessions the Microsoft Office Quick Icons
- cannot be selected.
-
- o Running complex display macros in Full-Screen WIN-OS/2 sessions in Lotus
- 123, Excel or other applications and switching back to the OS/2 desktop
- while the macros are running may cause drawing corruption and color
- changes to the OS/2 desktop.
-
- o Under some conditions cursor changes may leave a line when the mouse
- cursor changes shape.
-
- o Moving DOS boxes over some seamless WIN-OS/2 applications may leave
- ghosting images.
-
- o On EISA machines Full-Screen WIN-OS/2 sessions may come up blank. To
- correct this edit the SYSTEM.INI file and set the VAD=OFF statement to
- VAD=ON.
-
- o In some cases switching between DOS sessions and the OS/2 desktop leaves
- the screen blank in the full screen DOS. It is necessary to set your DOS
- settings VIDEO-SWITCH-NOTIFICATION to OFF.
-
- o In some cases switching between full screen WIN-OS/2 sessions and the
- OS/2 PM desktop leaves the screen blank in the full screen WIN-OS2/2
- session. It is necessary to set your DOS settings under your Full-Screen
- WIN-OS2 settings VIDEO-SWITCH-NOTIFICATION to ON.
-
- o Rapid task switching between full screen DOS applications and the PM
- Desktop may result in corrupt icons.
-
- o Icons created for 256 color displays may not display correctly at higher
- color depths (i.e. 65,000, 16.7 Million)
-
- o Corrupt DOS screens
-
- Task switching between a full screen DOS graphics display and the PM
- Desktop, may cause the DOS session to become corrupt. To correct the
- problem, refresh the DOS screen.
-
- o Draw for OS/2 (Ver. 3.0)
-
- Using the mach32 16.7 million color display drivers may result in Draw
- 3.0 displaying only in monochrome. This problem will occur at 640x480
- and 800x600 resolutions.
-
- o Designer for OS/2 (Ver 3.1):
-
- - SlideShow: Using any mach32 16.7 million color display driver may
- result in garbage characters being displayed.
-
- - Bitmap: Try to draw a box and fill it with bitmap. The display may
- become corrupt with the bitmap window displayed correctly, but all
- boxes are white or dark color.
-
- o EISA mach32 and Full Screen Win OS/2
-
- At 1024x768, 8 bpp running a Full Screen Win OS/2 session may generate a
- black screen. This problem does not appear to occur with other bus
- types.
-
- o AVI Playback
-
- Moving a AVI playback Window, while an AVI is running, may result in an
- internal processing error.
